Travel website places Tenerife in first place as favorite holiday destination for British tourists
Tenerife Island is the favorite travel destination for British tourists to spend their summer holidays. The information was provided by the British travel website Trivago, which made a ranking taking into account the number of hotel reservations made through this portal. Tenerife is above destinations such as Cyprus or Mallorca, said in a press release the Council of Tenerife.
The first vice-president of the Council and Tourism councilor, José Manuel Bermúdez, highlighted that “this is good news for us in relation with this issuing market, and we have to add that airline ticket reservations from the U.K. to Tenerife increased 300% this year during summer season. This last information was provided by the British travel website lowcostholiday.com”.
The councilor also said that “this shows that Tenerife is still the favorite destination for European tourists, and that our tourist offer is better than any other in Europe. The promotional campaigns we have been carrying out, therefore, have accomplished their purpose”.
According to the top ten ranking of favorite holiday destinations for this summer season made by trivago.com.uk, Tenerife, Cyprus and Mallorca are followed by Gran Canaria, Jersey (located in the English Channel), Madeira, Cayo Hueso (Florida, USA), Hawaii, Lanzarote (Canary Islands) and Crete in the Mediterranean Sea.
The numbers of British tourists lodged in the island during the first six months of 2010, raised to 730,597 which represent a 3.06% grow in comparison with the same period of the previous year. British tourists ended in second place among the total number of tourist that chosen Tenerife to spend their holidays in 2009, only outnumbered by Spaniards. British tourists’ total number last year was 1,430,000 while Spanish tourists were 1,450,000.
